The accessory protein ORF9b of SARS-CoV-2 was recently reported to antagonize type I and type III interferon (IFN) production by targeting multiple components of the RIG-I-MAVS, TLR3-TRIF, and cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-STING signaling pathways, all of which play essential roles in the immune response against viral infections (2, 3). This evidence concerns the gene CGAS and viral infectious disease.
