As either treatment of Fer-1, zVAD, Nec-1 or their combination was able to restrain the activation of phagocytes and reduce the elevation of inflammation mediators, all while attenuating the chemotaxis of phagocytes toward RGCs, we believe that the suppression of cell death pathways could interrupt this “doom loop” and thus facilitate the rescue of RGCs loss subsequent to retinal ischemia. This evidence concerns the gene PCSK1 and retinal ischemia.
