In contrast to pDCs, cDCs express high levels of CD80 and CD86 in response to SK-1, produce high levels of the inflammatory cytokine IL-6, and promote a Th17 response, suggesting that the interaction between S. cerevisiae and cDCs in the gut contributes to mucosal inflammation and to mucosal host defense against fungal infection (36). Here, CD80 is linked to fungal infectious disease.
