Regarding the pathological deleterious effect of CXCL8 in COVID-19 patients, we could consider targeting the E protein for therapeutic purposes, either by immunotherapy approaches by administering neutralizing anti-E antibodies to COVID-19 patients in intensive care units (ICUs), or by a vaccine approach, by combining the E protein with an immunogen in future candidate vaccines against COVID-19. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and COVID-19.
