To put this into perspective, silencing LRRC8D also confers cisplatin resistance in BRCA1-mutated ovarian cancer cells in a genome-scale CRISPR-Cas9 knockout screen study [88], and a retrospective analysis of two small cohorts of ovarian cancer patients that received platinum drugs reveals that lower expression levels of LRRC8D were correlated with lower survival rates [87]. The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is ovarian cancer.
