The main function of AChE is the rapid hydrolysis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) on the cholinergic synapses associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), whereas butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) is not correlated with any physiological abnormalities [18,19,20]. Here, BCHE is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
