Data support the possible role of hypoxia in regulating both miRNA expressions, which were two-fold up-regulated in diabetic acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and transient ischemic attack patients, compared to non-diabetics, and inversely correlated with both brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) serum levels [23,24]. The gene discussed is BDNF; the disease is transient ischemic attack.
