Some of the antiviral drugs, such as favipiravir, ribavirin, and the lopinavir: ritonavir combination, have been hypothesised to counteract inflammation simply by resolving the viral infection, while other drugs with antiviral effects, such as remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, and azithromycin, are involved in the inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome activation [23,33,67,68,69,70,71,72].
