As discussed in the second part of the review article, previous studies have clarified the role of Gal-1 in the pathogenesis of keloid, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, liver fibrosis, renal fibrosis, pancreatic fibrosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and have suggested that Gal-1 may become a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of tissue fibrosis in different diseases and potential therapeutic targets for its treatment. This evidence concerns the gene LGALS1 and renal fibrosis.
