Intra-amniotic infections, such as funisitis or chorioamnionitis, are associated with higher levels of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) and interleukins (IL), including IL-1beta (IL-1b), IL-6 [5], and IL-8 [6] in amniotic fluid, cord blood, and newborn blood samples [7]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and chorioamnionitis.
