As a matter of fact, the presence of ectopic tissue in endometriosis is associated with local overproduction of several pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic cytokines and chemokines (i.e., interleukin 1beta (IL-1β), IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), monocyte chemotactic protein 2 (MCP-2)) [42,43,44,45] and yet also aberrant levels of coagulation and inflammatory parameters in the peripheral blood of endometriosis have been observed [46]. This evidence concerns the gene TGFB1 and endometriosis.
