The increased IELs in celiac disease are CD3+ T-cells of CD4− CD8+ TCRαβ and CD4− CD8− TCRγδ phenotypes [165,166,167,168], but some cells also express CD94/NKG2D [169,170], whilst lymphocytes in the lamina propria are mainly CD4+ CD8− [166,171]. Here, CD4 is linked to celiac disease.
