A study on the mechanism of PRIMA-1-dependent rescue of mutant p53 function in thyroid cancer cells showed that PRIMA-1 stimulates DNA demethylation in cells harboring mutant p53, mainly by suppressing the expression of the DNA methyltransferases 1, 3a, and 3b and by increasing the expression of growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible α (GADD45α) and ten-eleven translocation (TET) family members [181]. This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and thyroid gland carcinoma.
