The novel finding that tBHQ enhances the expression of the mRNA for COX2 in cultured VSMCs and in microarterioles of mice infused with Ang II for three days is consistent with the reports that the gene for COX2 contains a consensus antioxidant response element at the Nrf2 binding site [40], and with reports that exposure to tBHQ upregulates COX2 in zebrafish [4] and in tumor cells [20,40]. This evidence concerns the gene AGT and neoplasm.
