Based on the dose and time experiments for annexin V/7ADD analysis, fucoidan increased the annexin V (+) populations in oral cancer cells (Ca9-22 and CAL 27) more than in non-malignant oral cells (S–G) (Figure 3A,B), indicating that fucoidan causes preferential apoptosis in oral cancer cells. The gene discussed is ANXA5; the disease is lip and oral cavity carcinoma.
