This risk of anxiety disorders, including FOH, might be increased by different factors, such as the female sex, genotype (e.g., mutations in the gene coding for monoamine oxidase A [MAO‐A] regulating the catabolism of dopamine, serotonin, and noradrenalin), certain personality types (avoidant, dependent, obsessive‐compulsive personality), and environmental and psychosocial factors (e.g., negative experiences, difficult relationships with family and peers) (Beléndez & Hernández‐Mijares, 2009; Gjerløw et al., 2014; Irvine et al., 1992; Kępiński, 2020). Here, MAOA is linked to anxiety disorder.
