IR and its resulting compensatory hyperinsulinism are linked to hyperandrogenemia in various ways; for instance, they stimulate the pituitary to secrete luteinizing hormone (LH) (Teede et al., 2007; Szeliga et al., 2022) and decrease hepatic production of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) (Calcaterra et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene SHBG and hyperinsulinism.
