For example, the selective HDAC6 inhibitor tubastatin A has neuroprotective activity for photoreceptors and can restore vision in zebrafish and mouse models of retinal blindness.[7, 45, 46, 47, 48] Our present work reveals a crucial role for HDAC6‐mediated cilium disassembly in the pathological changes associated with ROP and demonstrates a potential protective effect for targeting the HDAC6‐cilium axis in the prevention of ROP (Figure 8). This evidence concerns the gene HDAC6 and retinopathy of prematurity.
