In this regard, while it has been demonstrated the pathophysiological role of some BMPs, such as BMP3B, BMP4, BMP6, BMP8B and BMP9, in animal models of NASH and NASH patients [13–17], little is known about the involvement of BMP2 in experimental models of NAFLD [18], and no data exist so far directly linking BMP2 to human NAFLD.
