Elovl2, a gene which functions as a master control of poly unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) synthesis and is strongly associated with diabetes, shows the most relevance to aging.4,11,15,16 The DNA methylation status of Elovl2 explains 70% of the “aging epigenetic clock”.15 Several CG markers including Elovl2 predict aging in various tissues15,17 and are referred to as universal bioage markers,15,17 whereas the rest markers are usually tissue specific and carry less weight in aging prediction.
