Several studies in the last two decades demonstrated a major role for CB2 in suppressing inflammatory responses and related conditions such as neuropathic pain, ischemia/reperfusion injury, and atherosclerosis, as well as protection against age-related bone loss (Ofek et al., 2006; Racz et al., 2008; Prime et al., 2009; Steffens et al., 2005). The gene discussed is CNR2; the disease is atherosclerosis.
