Some alternative methods to prevent severe complications including HUS have been proposed, such as Gb3 analogs, recombinant antibodies that target Shiga toxins, effector proteins or intimin, and synthetic small organic molecules that inhibit Gb3 or Stx2 production (Nakao et al., 1999; Yamagami et al., 2001; Trachtman et al., 2003; Rasko et al., 2008; Yu et al., 2011; Ruano-Gallego et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene STX2 and hemolytic-uremic syndrome.
