Guidelines for the management of diabetes in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 recommend continuous and reliable glycemic control.22 Insulin is the preferred glycemic control agent for hospitalized patients, and reports have shown patients with severe COVID-19 have exceptionally high insulin requirements.22,23 Patients should be managed with individualized insulin therapy to target a plasma glucose concentration between 72 and 180 mg/dL.
