AGTR1 and heart disorder: In fetal life, RAS components such as Angio II and AT1 receptors are essential for kidney and heart formation and maturation, notably in the last gestational trimester.24,34–36 However, in prematurity, this system can be overactivated, which has been shown to trigger a paradoxical negative effect by stimulating an accelerated organ maturation and remodeling.21 Our results showed that restoring the balance of this system during development can be beneficial to prevent heart diseases later in life in our animal model.
