SCARB1 tag-SNPs did not show any relation to atherosclerosis in our study sample (data not shown) after adjusting for confounding variables (age, sex, body mass index, ethnicity, blood pressure, diabetes and CKD stage); however, PLA2G7 variants were found to particularly affect the presence of atheromatous plaques (7 tag-SNPs) and the number of plaques detected (6 tag-SNPs), with p-values ranging from 0.0004 to 0.047 (Figure 1). This evidence concerns the gene PLA2G7 and atherosclerosis.
