TSPAN1 and pancreatic neoplasm: Among other markers, several members of the tetraspanin family of adhesion molecules, such as tetraspanin 1 (TSPAN1)[9] and mucins (a family of high molecular weight and heavily glycosylated proteins, known to play an important role in the pathogenesis of PDAC)[10], particularly mucin 16 (MUC16) involved in metabolic reprogramming of pancreatic cancer cells via its effects on an increased glycolysis and enhanced motility and invasiveness of PDAC tumor cells[11], are candidate PDAC-associated protein markers.
