The previous suicidal attempt was independently associated with above-cut-off levels of hsCRP and TNF-α, and with below-cut-off levels of total cholesterol and folate; and higher baseline suicidal severity was independently associated with above-cut-off levels of hsCRP, IL-1β, and IL-4, and with below-cut-off levels of folate after adjustment for age, sex, living alone, religious affiliation, monthly income, atypical feature, number of depressive episodes, number of physical disorders, smoking status, and scores on HADS-A and AUDIT (online Supplementary Table S5). This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and major depressive disorder.
