NR1H4 and neoplasm: Overall, FXR inhibits hepatocarcinogenesis mainly through the following mechanisms: (1) FXR maintains normal liver homeostasis and the metabolism of BAs, glucose, and lipids; (2) FXR promotes hepatocyte survival; (3) FXR suppresses liver inflammation while facilitating regeneration and repair after liver injury; and (4) FXR increases the expression of partial tumour suppressor genes, inhibiting the transcription of multiple oncogenes (Huang et al., 2015).
