The importance of the unfolded conformational variant of p53 caused by PTMs has been investigated in several studies comparing AD patients to controls, and a significantly higher expression of the conformational variant of p53 was detected in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from AD patients (Uberti et al., 2008; Lanni et al., 2010b; Stanga et al., 2012). This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and Alzheimer disease.
