Interestingly, we found that chitotriosidase correlated with GNMPB expression levels, but unlike GNMPB, chitotriosidase still remains a largely a marker of inflammation in neurodegenerative disease such ALS, AD, Gaucher, and cALD as it is thought to be released upon monocyte/macrophage or microglial cell activation25,28,36,37. This evidence concerns the gene CHIT1 and Alzheimer disease.
