Interestingly, no differences were discovered when considering the extent of the lesions in Paris Classification, but patients with right-sided (proximal colitis, E3 or E4) lesions had statistically higher serum MMP-9 concentration than patients with left-sided (distal colitis, E1 or E2) lesions (median 783.6 ng/mL vs. 492.3 ng/mL, p = 0.01, Figure 3a). Here, MMP9 is linked to colitis.
