Atovaquone inhibited the viability of human ovarian and endometrial cancer cell lines of human (OVCAR-3, SKOV-3 and ECC-1) (Figure 1A) and murine (ID8) origin (Figure S1) by inducing apoptosis as indicated by an increase in annexin V on the cell surface (Figure 1B), cleaved caspase 3 (Figure 1C) and cleaved caspase 9 and a decrease in Bcl-2 (Figure S2). Here, BCL2 is linked to endometrial cancer.
