Although few examples are yet available in this context, an elegant report highlighting the potential complexity of these mechanisms has described that in hepatoma cells the lncRNA SNHG6 is a negative regulator of MAT1A protein expression by triggering the miR1297/FUS pathway to regulate nucleocytoplasmic shuttling of MAT1A mRNA, while activating MAT2A mRNA expression by suppressing the direct binding of miR-1297 to MAT2A 3′UTR mRNA [57]. Here, MAT2A is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
