Previous results from our group, showed that NSCLC stem cells, the CD133+/CXCR4+EpCAM subset, was triggered by EMT, an event that can be induced by stimuli from the tumor microenvironment, able to convert progenitor cells into cancer stem cells [22], endowed with invasiveness ability [56,57].
