The therapeutic role of IL-1β was demonstrated in the CANTOS (Canakinumab Anti-inflammatory Thrombosis Outcomes Study) clinical trial [211] in which patients were treated with canakinumab (a human monoclonal antibody which binds IL-1β) associated with decreases in serum levels of inflammatory markers (CRP) and were associated with a reduced risk of acute cardiovascular events compared to the placebo-treated group of patients. This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and deep vein thrombosis.
