Apart from stimulating CSC formation (CD44+ or CD133+ cells), mutant or GOF p53 plays a significant role in the formation of polyploid giant cancer cells (PGCCs), which express both normal and self-renewal stem-cell genes, such as OCT4, NANOG, SOX2, along with CD44, and CD133 in ovarian and lymphoblastoid cancer cells [20,53]. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is cancer.
