CXCL8 and COVID-19: We then investigated whether the plasma of COVID-19 patients could induce NETs in vitro, as it has been reported that factors in the plasma of these patients contained SARS-CoV-2 [19], reactive oxygen species (ROS) [20,21], co-infecting organisms [22], inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-8) and chemokines [23], and activated platelets [24] which could activate neutrophils and induce NETs.
