COVID-19 patients admitted to ICU showed unregulated cytokine production characterized by higher levels of granulocyte–macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interferon gamma-induced protein 10 (IP10), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha (MIP1A), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα) compared to non-ICU patients [46].
