Given the already mentioned information regarding the ATP-P2X7R pathway and our previous findings demonstrating site-specific modulation of P2X7 in intestinal epithelial cells [11], we hypothesized that purinergic signaling through P2X7R plays a critical role in the regulation of chronic intestinal inflammation and consequently may be involved in the pathogenesis of CA-CRC. The gene discussed is P2RX7; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
