Our results now show that a high oscillatory glucose regime induces the expression of ACE2 at both the mRNA and protein levels, consistent with previous findings showing increased ACE2 levels in the kidney cortex from db/db mice and STZ diabetic mice (Ye et al., 2004) and proximal tubular cells in kidney biopsies from patients with diabetic kidney disease (Menon et al., 2020). The gene discussed is ACE2; the disease is diabetic kidney disease.
