SIRT1 and atherosclerosis: Activation of Sirt1 may be a potential therapeutic target to treat elevations in arterial stiffness with either obesity or aging, as Sirt1 is abundantly expressed in vasculature and is involved in the maintenance of vascular homeostasis by providing protection against detrimental vascular tissue remodeling, atherosclerosis, and endothelial senescence (Bai et al., 2016; Chen, Yu, et al., 2020; Potente & Dimmeler, 2008; Wang et al., 2011) as well as in the regulation of vasodilation and vascular tone (Potente & Dimmeler, 2008; Tajbakhsh & Sokoya, 2012; Vaziri et al., 2001).
