Hepatocyte apoptosis is prevalent in all stages of the development of NAFLD.23,24 Bifunctional apoptosis regulator (BFAR) is a protein that inhibits the apoptotic signaling pathway and it was first discovered by Reed et al.25 Two major pathways for induction of apoptosis have been identified-intrinsic and extrinsic.26–28 BFAR is a protein at the intersection of two major pathways controlling apoptosis. Here, BFAR is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
