We identified lactotransferrin (LTF) as a key predictor of AD status and amyloid pathology load before placing a direct interaction between lactoferrin (encoded by lactotransferrin) and β-amyloid precursor protein (APP) in vitro with a potential mechanism for lactoferrin to promote amyloidogenic processing of APP and β-amyloid accumulation shown in cell-based models. The gene discussed is LTF; the disease is amyloidosis.
