Specifically expressed in central nervous system neurons, JNK3 has long been attempted as a target for treating ischemic stroke.9 Borsello et al. first designed a cell-penetrating JNK inhibitor-D-JNKI1 and confirmed its powerful protection against neuronal hypoxia/ischemia.12,25 However, D-JNKI1 was not JNK3 specific. The gene discussed is MAPK8; the disease is ischemic stroke.
