Natural hemiindigos also include well-known indigoid dyes and natural medicinally important compounds such as indirubin, its family members, and a novel bioactive alkaloid (E)-2-[(3′-indole)cyanomethylene]-3-indolinone (isolated from tetraploidy banlangen (Isatis indigotica Fort)).12 Indirubins were recognized as inhibitors of glycogen synthase kinase-3β and CDK5/P25, the two protein kinases involved in abnormal tau phosphorylation in Alzheimer's disease.13 Indirubins were also identified as potent ATP competitive protein kinase inhibitors.14 Here, WEE1 is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
