The results demonstrated that the expression of the cell–cell junction protecting proteins ZO-1 and claudin-1 was downregulated while that of the cell–cell junction-inhibiting protein claudin-2 was upregulated in AML mice at both mRNA and protein levels, and these changes were reversed in butyrate-treated AML mice (Fig. 6b, c).
