Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) data transformation and classifier found that the combination of five mitochondrial proteins (carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1, CPT1; hydroxyl-CoA dehydrogenase subunit α, HADHA; heat shock protein 60, HSP60; superoxide dismutase 2, SOD2 and thioredoxin, TRX) plus the cytoplasmatic fatty acid synthase (FAS), correctly classified 93% of the samples (Fig. 1b), allowing discrimination of tumor from NAT with high sensitivity and specificity as revealed in the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve (Fig. 1c).
