GPX4 and cancer: Cancer cells with a mesenchymal phenotype are typically associated with property of metastasis and resistance to cancer therapies, mostly incorporating classical apoptosis-induced manners, across different cancer lineages, and this cell state is specifically characterized by elevated synthesis of polyunsaturated lipids, which, coincidentally, are acquiescent substrates for lipid peroxidation during ferroptosis and therefore converges a dependency on GPX4.
