By contrast, supplementation with curcumin effectively reduces blood pressure, alleviates oxidative stress, ameliorates vascular responsiveness through upregulation of eNOS and downregulation of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase expressions in the blood vessels of rats exposed to lead and cadmium (Tubsakul et al., 2021), an observation that supports the potential of curcumin as a candidate in the treatment of hypertension induced by the heavy metals.
