Studies have shown that overexpressed PRRX1 can induce EMT in hepatoma cells by activating the TGF-β pathway to promote β-catenin entry into the nucleus, while downregulation of Prrx1 can inhibit the expression of Slug and TGF-β-R2 by upregulating Pitx2-microRNA pathway, then relieve the inhibition of Slug on E-cadherin, thus leading to the occurrence of MET in hepatoma cells, which is closely related to metastasis and recurrence of liver cancer (28). The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
